Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. 

Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for aSenior Systems Security Engineer – Coalition Networks in Canberra, ACT to work on secure coalition systems and Defence network integration projects supporting ACP240 and Federated Mission Network spiral architectures.

What You’ll Do

These roles offer a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

  • Provide specialised technical advice on Data Centric Security, Zero Trust frameworks, systems architecture, networking, Wintel environments and cyber security accreditation.
  • Support the establishment, integration, testing and validation of secure Defence capabilities aligned with ACP240 and Federated Mission Network spiral architectures.
  • Engage with Australian and international stakeholders, coordinating requests, engineering activities and high-priority delivery outcomes across the coalition community.
  • Identify technical gaps, risks and issues, and provide assistance and oversight to Groups and Services testing and validating solutions within the network.
  • Maintain and publish agreed testing and development schedules, manage access, maintain security accreditation artefacts and ensure systems are sanitised following testing.

What You’ll Bring

  • Demonstrated experience applying Data Centric Security and Zero Trust frameworks within complex Defence, national security or coalition environments.
  • Proven contributions to coalition capability development, including effective communication with national and international stakeholders.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Wintel operational systems, networking, cyber security, accreditation requirements and systems architecture.
  • Experience supporting systems engineering, integration, testing and validation activities, including identifying and managing technical risks, gaps and issues.
  • The flexibility to participate in international meetings and technical discussions outside standard business hours when operationally required.

Due to the nature of the work, the successful applicant must be an Australian citizen and hold and maintain an AGSVA Security Clearance, as required by the Commonwealth. In some cases, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) may also be required.
