To supervise and guide the activities related to the dredger. Teach, advice and guide the crew on daily base to increase their level of understanding of the dredging activities onboard in order to achieve a higher quality, safety, technical reliability, production and operational hours
Diploma or Degree or equivalent professional qualification and experience
STCW code; Basic and Advance with Manila amendments;
Hold valid statutory license issued by flag authority for specific on board job
Be Familiar with SMS (safety management system)
Risk Assessment / PTW
10+ years of experience (preferably worldwide)
Of which min. 7,5 years on CSD with min 1500 KW Cutter power
Proven Experience on high performance driven CSD in leading role
Function specific experience
Full understanding of the parts and working principle of CSD and their limitations
Proven understanding of dredging methodology in the use of pumps (UWP,IBP), ladder weight, side winch( including brake),vacuum, cutter diesel-direct and diesel- electric CSD
Responsible for:
In general:
In close cooperation with SD/TS everything that is required to perform his tasks properly
Organize and supervise the execution of the dredging cutter suction works for which he is responsible according to the present planning, budgeting and the applied methods, also observing the standards as to quality, safety and environmental care and with as little risk as possible to persons and equipment;
SDM (when being the highest authority on board) is responsible for optimal utilization and the planning of the maintenance of CSD, daily production in accordance to the operational capabilities of the CSD
Inform opportunities to improve to Operations department, Technical Department
Propose methods to increasing production with the crew on board
Propose methods to the Technical department increase technical reliability
Propose methods to HSE department in order to increase safety on board
Authorities:
Schedule personnel and aux vessels on projects in order to perform the works as planned
Take all necessary decision in order to carry out the work safely, with care for the environment and with quality according to the requirements
Authority of the SDM exercises in accordance with international and national laws in force in the situation and, or work area the dredger lies
SDM has the ultimate responsibility of the safety and daily operation of CSD and his crew, as being prescribed by Company procedures and guidelines
SDM has full power in coordination with DSI/TSI/WM/PM, to take whatever action he deems to be best in order to safeguard the interest of vessel and its crew
Powers:
Defend the Company’s policy and procedures
Final word in regards to all activities on board of CSD which are not limited to operations, planning, maintenance, deck department, engine department etc.
Specially:
Ensure that the works assigned to him are executed safety and without risks for the health, quality and environment, both according to the customer’s requirements and those of the company
Report of defects to vessels or their auxiliary equipment to the Technical Department, the Project Manager and the Head office
Daily production reporting to and consultation with the Project Manager, the Project Team on the operational activities, more in particular on the progress of the works for which he is responsible
Report of accidents or particular events
Execution of the work in accordance with the local environmental prescriptions and regulations
Duties:
He will exercise overall control of CSD’s maintenance and operation and welfare, discipline and training of crew in order to create and maintain a high productive and efficient and safe working environment
Teach and guide crew on board in dredging techniques, planning of deck- and engine room related activities
Generate production reporting on each operation
Provide input on the planning in agreement with the SDI/TSI on a day-to-day basis
Keep track of the W&T of all soil conveying parts (deck lines, impellers, inner/outer pump houses, sheaves, suction mouth, etc..) by means of a register based on the characteristics of the dredge material and the pumped volume
Keep track of the cubic meters pumped through the floating pipeline
SDM will keep track and plan maintenance of CSD and will schedule the maintenance in alignment with the project team
Verify if maintenance is done on time on Aux, CSD and perform regular checks if all equipment’s are safe for operations
Advice the dredging superintendent in respect of, Planning of the work process, cutting patterns, shore connections etc
Assess the crew and provides honest and detailed evaluations to all Crewing ,Operations and Technical department
Implement the maintenance plan of CSD and aux vessels in accordance with technical Department objectives
Report all accidents / incidents / near misses to the project manager, HSE manager and designated person
Ensure all tasks and control related to quality as specified in relevant project quality plan
Provides input in regards to possible upgrades / small and major upgrades / small and major modifications to improve reliability and production of the CSD
Provide lessons learned register and implementation of the action points
Execute the ISM-management on board and arranges that all required drills / inspections are performed at the required intervals
Generalist view of a Job that you have been assigned for – at times you will be ask to do above / beyond the scope of this role due to Operational/Technical requirements
