We design and build the future of how teams work with data with agentic automation across Data Engineering & Infrastructure. Our Data Platforms and Products empower Data Science & Analytics, AI/ML, Product, Marketing, Commerce, Finance and Business teams across Yahoo to turn multi-petabyte datasets into real-time consumer insights and next-generation agentic/GAI workflows and features.

Responsibilities


  • Lead schema and data modeling optimizations for Yahoo Mail’s significant data assets and AI ready features. Design new data models and refine existing ones in order to enable multiple consumers including Data Science, Mail Intelligence, Product, Marketing, and Business Leaders across the company.
  • Design and deliver highly performant data models that minimize expensive compute operations while also delivering highly-usable and accurate foundational datasets at the scale of Yahoo Mail.
  • Identify and implement AI-driven efficiencies in day-to-day engineering work, utilizing AI toolkits to accelerate development cycles and improve code quality.
  • Design and implement data governance methodologies that enable accurate and auditable privacy by design in our agentic era.
  • Define our naming conventions, design and maintain our ontologies, enable lineage and provenance from origin to consumption and help design quality automation systems while also maintaining the security and integrity of our customers’ data.
  • Refine the distributed data architecture that ensures that the broader company can access the right data for fast insights and powerful consumer product features.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering and stakeholder teams.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and growth mindset through active participation in design discussions and code reviews.

Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in data modeling and data architecture including ownership over a significant and highly effective data model at scale.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cloud-native data management.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor) to level up thinking, design process, and coding speed.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML data requirements and the data models required to support Ai-driven product features.
  • Familiarity with data for Data Science and Analytics teams an, including data models that enable high performance for rapid decision-making and the derivation of novel insights.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps principles (CI/CD, Terraform, Kubernetes).
  • Comfort operating in an evolving, AI-augmented environment with a focus on using automation to increase individual and team impact.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) at enterprise scale.
  • Experience with Pub/Sub, Dataflow, BigQuery.
  • Experience with graph structures.
  • Deep knowledge of real-time data governance and AI-generated output validation.
  • Interest in prompt engineering for automating technical documentation and system architecture mapping.

The compensation for this position ranges from $128,250.00 - $266,875.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
