Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Purchasing Supplier Development (PSD) is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Senior Buying Analyst with a strong data analytics mindset and the ability to turn insights into sound business decisions.
The primary responsibility of this role is to develop sourcing strategies and apply rigorous analytical thinking (cost modeling, scenario/variance analysis, and benchmarking) to inform negotiations and recommendations—ensuring our Supplier Partners are compensated fairly while maintaining Toyota’s competitive advantage across the North American supply chain.
The person in this role will support PSD’s objective to develop our outsourced supply base by using data-driven performance insights to ensure overall best cost, quality, manufacturability, and operational self-reliance.
The candidates should consistently demonstrate attributes of next level capability as outlined in the Toyota Core Competencies and meets expectations of current position.
This position is located in Liberty, North Carolina.
What you’ll be doing
Develop sourcing strategies using data-driven analysis leading to supply base optimization.
Participate in early design work to optimize the part design / manufacturing environment through Value Engineering analysis, including trade-off, sensitivity and scenario evaluations.
Establish, analyze and monitor cost metrics/KPIs to drive a consistent, efficient approach to pricing, enable decision-ready recommendations and support timely payment issuance.
Negotiate with Supplier Partners for cost savings/avoidance using fact-based analytics and tools such as competitive benchmarking, cost-element modelling, and variance analysis.
Report accurately and timely at all project milestones, synthesizing information into clear insights, up through top management on target creation & achievement and negotiation.
Lead Annual Price Review activities with Supplier Partners to promote by analyzing cost drivers , quantifying improvement opportunities, and aligning stakeholders on data-backed actions focus on Manufacturing Improvement.
Execute fact-based strategy and work closely with buyers on other commodities to ensure all targets, and due dates are met.
Understand and analyze respective commodity market trends (e.g., indices, capacity, and risk signals) to ensure Toyota is using the right supplier candidates and technologies.
Develop and manage Supplier Partner relationships and performance by tracking KPIs, interpreting trends, and driving fact-based continuous improvement decisions.
Apply Toyota Business Principles to drive Business Process Kaizen (Improvement), grasping actual work processes, identification of wastes and areas to streamline to enhance overall process efficiency.
What you bring
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Business, Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or Supply Chain Management or 5+ years equivalent professional experience in a direct buying or purchasing role.
Minimum of 2+ years of professional experience in a Purchasing, Procurement or similar role, including responsibility for analysis and negotiation of product/ manufacturing cost and supplier sourcing.
Experience developing Strategies to define project, product or commodity direction.
Experience with data analysis with the ability to identify and evaluate trends, quantify impacts, and communicate concise decision-quality insights and recommendations to management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
Working experience with Microsoft Power BI and Power Automate (including data importation, slicer manipulation, report creation).
Working knowledge and experience with data analytics platforms & AI.
Willingness to travel up to 20% (domestic and international) and work overtime up to 20% to support business objectives.
Added bonus if you have
Lead buyer for 2 or more commodity decks or Rank A commodity deck.
Experience working with raw material commodity deck.
Familiarity with battery/ chemical manufacturing/ markets.
Active participation, beyond your daily role, on a Way We Work Team, WARP/NGP Champion, BAMA or other cross functional team within the last 2 years.
Formal leadership responsibility, beyond your daily role, on a cross functional, special task force, Board Member of BPG/External council or other team within the last 2 years.
Successful completion of Toyota Business Practice (TBP) Panel.
Experience working as a Senpai (Mentor program) for PSD New Hire.
