Software Dev Engineer I, AWS Region Expansion
$110.5K–160KActive
Job description
Come build the solutions that power AWS's global expansion — join the Region Expansion team and help AWS service teams launch in new regions faster, with fewer defects. We are a high-impact engineering team whose tools and services directly accelerate how quickly AWS can bring its full portfolio to customers worldwide.
- We build intelligent platforms that detect issues in complex region-launch workflows, automate operational processes, and generate actionable insights for service teams — making launches smoother and more reliable at scale.
- Our customers are internal AWS service teams navigating the complexity of multi-hundred-team, multi-milestone region launches. We simplify what would otherwise be a sprawling, error-prone coordination problem into clean, automated workflows.
- You will design and deliver software that directly impacts AWS's ability to expand to new geographies — your code ships outcomes measured in regions launched and teams unblocked.
- You'll work with modern AWS services, tackle distributed-systems challenges, and collaborate across organizational boundaries with service teams, TPMs, and leadership.
- We value ownership, bias for action, and a builder mindset — you'll have real influence over our roadmap and architecture from day one.
- This is a team that moves fast, invests in quality, and is growing — a great place to build your career while building AWS's future.
Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions that enable AWS service teams to launch in new regions efficiently and with high quality.
- Produce clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle — from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
- Build and maintain APIs, services, and automation tools that simplify complex multi-team coordination workflows.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, participate in on-call rotations, and contribute to operational excellence.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, product managers, and TPMs to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and architecture discussions.
- Write documentation for systems you build and maintain, including runbooks and design documents.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing systems — proposing and implementing enhancements to reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Learn and apply AWS services and best practices to solve real-world distributed systems problems at scale.
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
