As we've grown, keeping things running has increasingly been a side responsibility for engineers who are primarily building features — and that's not sustainable. We're looking for an SRE to own that space: service health, incident response, infrastructure monitoring, and making sure we're not blindly burning cloud budget. The BI Engineer, SRE will ensure the availability, performance, and security of the Business Intelligence team's GCP-hosted APIs and data infrastructure. This role is responsible for proactive monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement of platform reliability across a cloud-native stack. The engineer will work closely with backend and data engineers to maintain service health and drive operational excellence. This position also carries responsibility for GCP cost visibility, helping the team track and optimize cloud spend through structured monitoring and alerting.BI ResponsibilitiesDevelop, maintain, and improve LookML models, views, and explores across the Looker semantic layerWrite and manage Liquid (Jinja2, Shopify flavor) templating logic for dynamic and parameterized content within LookerWrite advanced SQL queries in BigQuery to support data modeling, debugging, and performance optimizationCollaborate with data engineers on dbt models, ensuring the semantic layer accurately reflects the underlying dataIdentify and resolve data quality and consistency issues across models and exploresReview and refactor existing LookML for performance, maintainability, and accuracyDocument data models and business logic to support long-term maintainability SRE ResponsibilitiesMonitor and maintain uptime of GCP-hosted APIs and services, keeping performance within agreed targetsLead incident response for BI platform services — triage, resolve, and follow up with post-mortems that actually prevent recurrenceBuild and manage observability infrastructure: dashboards, alerts, and logging across GCP servicesTrack GCP cloud spend and set up cost alerting to flag anomalies before they become problemsReview and fix security gaps — IAP configs, service account permissions, API access controlsWork with data and backend engineers to shore up reliability of data pipelines and BigQuery workflowsContribute to infrastructure-as-code and help keep deployments documented and reproducibleQualifications 3+ years of experience in a BI development or data modeling roleBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a quantitative field, or equivalent practical experienceDeep hands-on experience with LookML and Looker, including complex explores and derived tablesStrong working knowledge of Liquid templating (Jinja2, Shopify flavor) within LookerAdvanced SQL skills with production experience in BigQuerySolid understanding of data modeling concepts and dimensional designPreferred skillsExperience with the Looker Extension Framework for building custom embedded applicationsExperience with dbt or willingness to pick it up quicklyFamiliarity with GCP data ecosystem beyond BigQuery (Datastream, Cloud Run, etc.)Experience working in version-controlled BI environments (Git)Comfortable working across IST/EST time zones in a distributed teamExperience with dbt or LookerCI/CD pipelines and deployment automation (GitHub Actions, Cloud Build, or similar)Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code toolsPython for scripting or automationMySQL, Spanner, or BigQuery at any meaningful depthGCP cost management and spend optimizationComfortable working across CET/EST hours in a distributed team Hours & LocationYou can work remotely in most countriesHours: we are fairly flexible and we could accommodate anything between 7am CEST - 10pm CEST Comp Structure & Benefits for India FTEsComp structure: fixed (inclusive of PF, Gratuity, and a 25k INR medical premium) + a target annual bonus that is approximately 5% of the gross annual earnings.
