The client's team builds industry-leading software that empowers business users around the world to make data-driven decisions through advanced analytics and experimentation, and is reimagining how it delivers scalable, cloud-native solutions. This role is based in Dublin, Ireland, with a hybrid working arrangement.In this role, you will help define and evolve system architecture and non-functional requirements, including scalability, performance, security, and reliability. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive complex technical solutions, lead team-level design, and deliver scalable services, APIs, and analytics-driven capabilities using technologies such as Java, Databricks, cloud platforms, and modern data technologies. The team is small, agile, and empowered to choose the processes that work best for its goals, with every engineer contributing across the full development lifecycle, from ideation and design through implementation and testing.What you'll doLead team-level system design, including high-level design, detailed design, API contracts, data flows, service interactions, integration patterns, and nonfunctional requirements such as scalability, reliability, performance, security, and operabilityPartner with lead engineers and architects to align team-level implementations with broader platform architecture, modernisation goals, engineering standards, and long-term maintainabilityDevelop and optimise data-intensive applications and analytics capabilities using Databricks, Spark, and related technologies to process and deliver data at scaleServe as a hands-on technical contributor, designing, coding, testing, debugging, and delivering production-quality software across the full engineering lifecycleIdentify and resolve performance bottlenecks across services, APIs, data processing workloads, and user experiencesCollaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutionsMentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, pairing, code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharingContribute to a collaborative engineering culture by modelling ownership, clear communication, continuous learning, pragmatic decision-making, and high standards for software qualityImprove engineering quality through code reviews, design reviews, automated testing, secure coding practices, observability, performance tuning, CI/CD practices, and production readinessTroubleshoot complex issues across application, service, API, data, and cloud layers, driving root cause analysis and implementing durable solutions that improve platform reliability and supportabilityRequirementsWhat you bring6+ years of software engineering experience delivering scalable, high-performance, and reliable software in an agile environmentStrong hands-on experience designing and building distributed systems, microservices, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native applicationsStrong programming experience with modern engineering stacks such as Java/Spring Boot, TypeScript/React, SQL, and related frameworks and technologiesExperience with Databricks, Spark, or PySpark is highly desirable, particularly for working with data pipelines and analytics-driven applicationsExperience building or supporting cloud-native applications on AWS and/or Azure, with familiarity in CI/CD, containerisation, Kubernetes, observability, automated testing, and production support practicesDemonstrated ability to lead team-level design discussions, evaluate technical trade-offs, and guide implementation through technical influenceAbility to translate product and business needs into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutionsStrong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teamsStrong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through ambiguity, make sound technical decisions, and drive results through hands-on executionBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience; an advanced degree is a plus
