Job Description

Grow your career in this Senior Process & Chemical Engineering role within AECOM’s Industrial team based in Auckland, New Zealand (NZ). In this role, you will be working on projects with a variety of scope, scale, site and technical complexities leading the delivery of process and chemical related work packages. This role and project variety will provide the opportunity to develop your technical and project delivery abilities while also learning from AECOM’s technical leaders.

You will also be working across project stages supporting AECOM’s engineering and client teams to prepare documentation, designs and engineering inputs across the project life cycle. You will be part of a team that is passionate about communicating complex technical concepts and solutions, in a simple and easy to understand way for a variety of stakeholders. The fast paced and innovative nature of projects will suit a Senior Engineer looking to make a difference across major and complex projects where understanding client needs, balancing engineering concepts, and problem solving to ensure technical and project delivery excellence.

Key role responsibilities include:

  • Leading and delivering work packages for Process and Chemical related Engineering projects, for greenfield and brownfield projects, including applying relevant technical standards.
  • Collaborating across disciplines, such as civil engineering teams, ensuring plant location, piping considerations and site-specific requirements are included in the design process.
  • Building site-based relationships as a trusted adviser with client technical and site teams, ensuring effective interfacing between new and existing plant.
  • Preparing and completing report writing for proposals, project updates for key stages with clients, progress reports, data sheets, and related documents throughout the project stages.
  • Provide and complete engineering reviews, designs, calculations and technical advisory tasks, meeting project technical requirements, within AECOM’s project verification processes.
  • Applying your specific experience for engineering tasks such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, industrial processes, pipe support designs and 3d modelling.
  • Raising design discrepancies and contributing to problem solving, within a collaborative team environment.
  • Work with the current local team to help mentor graduate and early-stage career engineers, developing their technical and project abilities.
  • Contributing to delivery excellence maintaining AECOM’s high standards of quality, safety, digital innovation and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Process or Chemical Engineer, with a track record of working across various project types including in Industrial or related sectors. Ideally, this will include experience across both greenfield and brownfield projects and complex operating sites, in energy, industrial, chemical processing, food industries, generation sites, or potentially wastewater treatment projects. You will be known for your ability to support delivery of complex projects, working collaboratively in teams, with a project and client-first focus.

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.

  • Process and / or Chemical Engineering experience, over 6+ years (ideally more), with a demonstrated engineering experience working on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience across the delivery of process and chemical related projects, across project stages, for both brownfield and greenfield sites – understands how to balance new project requirements, with current site and asset conditions.
  • A track record in planning and completing detailed engineering projects and design work packages, from concept, detailed design, procurement and through construction and commissioning.
  • An ability to proactively problem solve, identify discrepancies, and work within agreed client timelines, scopes and budgets independently.
  • Excellent ability to build relationships across client, site, contractor and internal teams finding areas of agreement across competing technical requirements to enable project delivery – able to explain and discuss complex engineering concepts, simply.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to confidently coordinate multidisciplinary inputs with both internal, and client technical and site-based teams.
  • Either registered, or working towards, a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) designation with a bachelor’s degree in process, chemical engineering or related field.
  • Displays a passion to grow their technical, engineering, process or chemical knowledge learning from others, as well as providing hands-on guidance to other engineers.
