Location:Birmingham, West Midlands

Salary:£120 – £160 per day (dependent on experience) / £26,000 – £31,000 per annum equivalent

Contract Type:Full-Time, Term Time Only

About the Role

Wayman Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and proactiveSchool Safeguarding Officerto join a vibrant secondary school in Birmingham.

In this vital pastoral role, you will work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Senior Leadership Team, and local agency partners to maintain the highest standards of student welfare and child protection across the school. You will serve as a primary point of contact for day-to-day safeguarding concerns, coordinating early help interventions and creating a safe, inclusive environment where all pupils can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Case Management:Log, triage, and manage daily safeguarding and child protection concerns usingCPOMS.

  • Multi-Agency Collaboration:Partner with Birmingham Children’s Trust, local health services, and social care providers, attending child protection conferences, core group meetings, and TAC (Team Around the Child) panels.

  • Early Help Support:Conduct early help assessments, design tailored support plans for vulnerable students, and evaluate intervention outcomes.

  • Pastoral Guidance:Provide confidential support, guidance, and active listening to pupils and families experiencing personal, social, or attendance challenges.

  • Statutory Compliance:Maintain accurate, up-to-date child protection records in full compliance withKeeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)guidelines.

Requirements

  • Experience:Proven experience in a school safeguarding, pastoral, or child protection capacity within a UK educational environment.

  • Statutory Knowledge:Comprehensive, up-to-date understanding of KCSIE regulations, early help frameworks, and multi-agency referral pathways.

  • System Knowledge:Hands-on experience using CPOMS (or equivalent school safeguarding software).

  • Key Skills:Strong interpersonal, active listening, and conflict-resolution abilities, with the discretion and empathy needed for sensitive cases.

  • Vetting:An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for a new one).
