Research Analyst – Global Emerging Markets, Mandarin Speaking
Who we’re looking for
The highly successful Global Emerging Markets (GEM) Equity team manages over $50 billion. The team is looking to recruit a London based, Mandarin-speaking analyst covering China. The successful candidate will work closely with highly experienced fund managers and research and recommend Chinese equities for inclusion in the portfolios. The analyst must display strong numerical, analytical and communication skills.

The team
The Schroders GEM Equity team has a well-defined investment philosophy and rigorous approach to fundamental analysis. There is an ongoing programme of talent development for all analysts. Talent development involves extensive education by and feedback from both analysts and fund managers on the team. We will sponsor the successful candidate to undertake the CFA programme if you do not already have this qualification.
What you'll do
Responsible for the analysis of Chinese companies with a view to making stock recommendations to fund managers for inclusion in the emerging market equity portfolios.
Undertaking the analysis of company reports and accounts. Evaluating company business models. Evaluating economic conditions that impact sectors or companies under coverage.
Building complex financial models incorporating financial projections. Utilising different fair value methodologies to establish fair value estimates.
Communicating investment views and conviction effectively to fund managers, both in writing and verbally.
Conducting management interactions (both management meetings and management conference calls). Undertaking research trips to countries under coverage.
Participating in strategy meetings, client and potential client meetings and meetings with consultants.
Ongoing development of skill set. Supporting the development of other members of the analyst resource.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
Role specific
Business-level fluency in Mandarin (reading and speaking) is essential due to research coverage of Chinese equities and regular interaction with Chinese companies and stakeholders. A deep understanding of China’s markets and culture is highly desirable.
Ideally candidates will have substantial investment experience, preferably with an established track record in Chinese markets. However, we welcome applications from candidates with varying levels of experience who can demonstrate the required skills and knowledge.
We are looking for a generalist analyst, though certain sector experience may be highly valued and we may have the flexibility to manage coverage to a successful candidate’s sector or industry expertise.
Desk specific
Graduate or ACA (or equivalent) with an exceptional academic record.
Strong interest in business, investing and markets.
Strong numerical, reasoning and analytical ability.
Strong evidence of ability to interpret data and information to form an investment conclusion.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Team player.
Strong self-awareness and responsive to feedback. Relentlessly seeks improvement.
Ability to plan workload independently.
Microsoft Office essential, to include Word and Excel. Knowledge of Bloomberg an advantage.
