ExpiredVerified Sep 1, 2026

Job description

Role: Teacher of Religious Education (KS3–KS4)

Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire

Contract: Temporary, Full-Time for Two Terms

Start Date: November 2026

School Type: Mixed secondary academy

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

A mixed secondary academy in Hitchin requires an RE Teacher for a two-term temporary appointment.

You will teach Religious Education at KS3 and KS4, covering religious beliefs, practices, ethical issues, philosophy and contemporary debates. The school wants students to develop accurate knowledge while learning how to evaluate different viewpoints respectfully.

The successful teacher will be confident leading discussion, modelling strong written responses and preparing students for examination-style questions. You should be able to create a calm classroom in which students feel comfortable exploring sensitive or complex topics.

A relevant subject qualification and experience of secondary teaching are preferred. GCSE Religious Studies experience would be useful but is not essential for a strong classroom practitioner.

You will work alongside an established humanities team with shared resources and regular collaborative planning.

This temporary Hitchin post offers a focused opportunity to make a positive contribution to students' academic progress and confidence in discussing important ideas.
