Job description
Description Ocean is building the future of email security. The attacks getting through today often look completely normal. AI did not invent targeted phishing or social engineering. It changed the economics of it. What once required a highly skilled attacker can now be created at scale, in minutes, and often looks like a completely legitimate message from someone you trust.Ocean is the first agentic email security platform built for this new reality. Our agents investigate suspicious emails the way a great security analyst would: understanding context, following the evidence, and explaining what they find.Founded in 2024 by Shay Shwartz and Oran Moyal, who spent years building targeted email attacks for homeland security, Ocean is the system they know would have stopped them. Today, we protect hundreds of thousands of mailboxes and analyze more than a billion emails every month for companies including Kayak, Headspace, and Fortune 500 enterprises. We're backed by $28M from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Picture Capital, Cerca Partners, and some of the best operators in cybersecurity. We're headquartered in New York and Tel Aviv. And we're just getting started. This is an enormous market opportunity. The problem is getting harder, the category is changing quickly, and Ocean is growing fast. We're hiring our first Product Marketing Lead. This is not a role where you inherit a playbook and spend your time managing it. You'll have the opportunity to define how Ocean tells its story, creates demand, and shows up in the market from the ground up.We also don't want you to spend the first month executing a template. We want you to spend it figuring out what Ocean actually needs, in what order, and then tell us. Some of what we think we need will turn out to be wrong, and we'd rather hear that from you early than politely later. You'll work in genuine co-ownership with our head of product, not adjacent to her. Our product and R&D team is in Tel Aviv and ships fast. Our sales and field teams are in the US. You'll be the connective tissue between them, which in practice means holding your early mornings ET open for Israel. It's also the best part of the job, because you'll get closer to how the product actually works than most product marketers ever get to be.You'll help turn a genuinely differentiated product and an incredibly interesting problem into stories and experiences that make people understand Ocean, remember Ocean, and want to learn more.We move quickly. Good ideas can become real very fast. We care about quality, but we don't believe great work requires endless meetings, layers of approval, or bureaucracy. You'll have real ownership, direct access to the people making decisions, and a huge amount of room to make your mark.If you want to join a company at a moment when your work can have a disproportionate impact, work on one of the most interesting problems in security, and build something that you can genuinely look back and say you created, this is a rare opportunity. Responsibilities Own Ocean's storyDevelop and evolve how we position Ocean in the market, including how we're different from the alternatives buyers are already considering. Build messaging that is clear, differentiated, and compelling, and adapt it for the audiences and moments that matter most.Turn complex technology into something people care aboutYou don't need to be able to build what our engineers build. You do need to know what to ask them. What did you assess before you built this, who is it for, what pain does it remove, why now. Then turn those answers into a reason a buyer should care, in language a buyer actually uses.Build the content engine, don't become itYou'll write, and you'll write a lot, especially early. But the goal is not for you to be the place all content comes from. It's for you to build the system that produces it: the single source of truth, the AI workflows on top of it, the structures that let a rep generate a tailored one-pager without waiting on you. Volume matters here, and so does not being the bottleneck. If in year one every piece of content still has to pass through your hands, we've built the wrong thing. To be clear about that first year, though: you will be writing and making a great deal of this yourself. There is no one to hand it to, and we are not hiring someone to design a system and wait for it to produce. The system is what you build while you're shipping, not instead of shipping.Make enablement programmaticGive our sales and customer-facing teams the messaging, materials, narratives, and content they need, including the competitive work: how we talk about the alternatives and how we handle the objections that show up in real deals. Then go further than shipping the asset. If we ask for a new pitch deck, we want the deck and a view on whether the story is actually landing, what would fix it, and how we'll know. Stay close to what's happening in deals, including why we win and why we lose.Shape how Ocean shows up in the marketHelp build Ocean's voice and presence across the places and conversations that matter most, including how buyers discover and evaluate us when they're researching on their own. You'll have significant freedom to experiment with new formats, channels, and ideas, and you'll help identify opportunities to get Ocean into the conversations our buyers and the security community care about.Lead major product and company momentsHelp lead how we introduce important product and company moments to the world. From the initial story through execution, you'll help ensure that the work is clear, compelling, coordinated, and actually gets noticed.Build the functionYou're our first product marketer. You'll define what great product marketing looks like at Ocean, and that starts with diagnosis rather than prescription. We're less interested in which programs you'd stand up than in how you'd decide what Ocean needs first, and what you'd deliberately leave alone for now. Spend your first few weeks listening hard, then come back with a point of view and start shipping against it. Requirements We're looking for someone who has owned product marketing inside a cybersecurity startup and knows what it takes to operate in a fast-moving, highly technical market. We care much more about what you've shipped recently than about how many years you've been doing this. You should have:Product marketing experience at a cybersecurity startup. This is a must. You understand the security market, how security buyers think, and what it takes to market a complex technical product in a crowded category.Exceptional content creation and writing skills. You can take an idea, technical insight, product capability, customer problem, or emerging trend and turn it into compelling content that educates the market, builds credibility, creates demand, and gives our sales team something worth sharing. You're at ease writing for US buyers, analysts, press, and the broader security community, and you create excellent work yourself rather than briefing agencies or managing freelancers.Experience owning positioning and messaging. You know how to take a technical product and figure out what matters, who it matters to, and how to communicate why it is different from what else is out there. You can turn that thinking into messaging and content that people actually remember.Experience leading analyst briefings yourself. You can sit across from Gartner, Forrester, IDC, and other industry analysts, clearly explain a technical product and point of view, answer hard questions, and build credibility. The instinct to interrogate rather than accept. You do not need to be an engineer. You do need real curiosity about how things work, and the confidence to keep asking product and engineering questions until you understand something well enough to explain it simply and accurately.Experience operating as the whole product marketing function, or close to it. You are comfortable owning a broad surface area, moving from strategy to execution, and figuring out what needs to happen without waiting for someone to hand you a perfectly defined plan. You build with AI, not just alongside it. AI is embedded in how you work, and you've made things with it that other people use. Not prompts you keep to yourself, but workflows, agents, and systems that let a team move faster than it could without you in the loop.Comfort appearing on camera and communicating publicly. You're at ease explaining complex security concepts, sharing a point of view, and telling technical stories to an external audience. The person we're really looking for: You're unusually curious. When someone tells you something interesting, your instinct is to ask more questions. When you encounter a technical concept you don't understand, you want to keep digging until you do. When a new AI tool comes out, you've probably already tried it.You diagnose before you prescribe. Handed a new company, your first move isn't to open the playbook. It's to listen hard, work out where the real constraint is, and go after that even when it isn't the obvious or most impressive thing to fix. You're a creator at heart. You see an interesting technical problem, product insight, customer story, or shift in the market and immediately start thinking about the story. You can turn that thinking into something people actually want to read, watch, share, and talk about. You think in systems. When something is going to happen more than twice, your instinct is to build the thing that makes it repeatable rather than doing it again by hand. You can move between worlds comfortably. You can spend time with an engineer getting deep into how something works, then turn around and explain why it matters to a CISO, a sales team, an analyst, or someone who has never heard of it before. You have strong taste and high standards, but you're not precious about your work. You want feedback. You change your mind when the evidence says you should. You care about getting to the best answer. And because this is an early-stage company, you need to genuinely enjoy the building part. There will be ambiguity. There will be things nobody has done before. You should find that exciting, not frustrating. Most importantly, you're someone who wants to understand the future before everyone else does, and then help explain it to the world. How to applySend us your CV along with three things you made yourself in the last 12 months.Blogs, white papers, launch materials, videos, presentations, customer stories, or anything else you're genuinely proud of. We care much more about seeing how you think and create than seeing a perfect list of logos on your resume. Please send work that you personally created, rather than work you only managed or briefed someone else to produce. And if any of it surfaces when you ask an AI assistant about the topic, tell us which piece and what you asked. We'll read the work before the resume.Description Ocean is building the future of email security. The attacks getting through today often look completely normal.
