You’ll manage and grow our social media presence, distribute the company newsletter, own the content calendar, craft compelling content, and track performance data to continually improve reach and audience engagement.

Responsibilities:

The listed responsibilities are not exhaustive and additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the evolving needs of the organization. We are seeking a dynamic individual who is able to adapt and take on new responsibilities as they arise.

Content Strategy and Editorial Planning

    • Develop and maintain a multi-channel content strategy aligned with company priorities, audience needs, campaigns, product launches, and business goals.
    • Own the editorial calendar across social media, newsletters, blog content, thought leadership, and other marketing initiatives.
    • Own the editorial planning, production, and distribution of the company newsletter.
    • Identify opportunities to turn company expertise, customer outcomes, product developments, and industry trends into timely, relevant content.
    • Create repeatable editorial processes that keep contributors and stakeholders aligned while ensuring content ships on schedule.
    • Balance planned campaigns with timely content related to company news, industry developments, and cultural moments.

Social Media Management

    • Own the day-to-day management of Defense Unicorns’ presence on LinkedIn and X.
    • Plan, write, schedule, publish, and optimize social content that reflects our brand voice and supports company objectives.
    • Create a thoughtful mix of company news, product education, technical insights, mission-focused stories, employee perspectives, and industry commentary.
    • Partner with executives and subject-matter experts to develop thought-leadership content and strengthen their social presence when appropriate.
    • Monitor relevant conversations, audience responses, and platform trends to identify opportunities for engagement.
    • Maintain a consistent publishing cadence while adapting content to the audience and conventions of each platform.
    • Track channel performance and use the results to improve content topics, formats, timing, and distribution.

Content Creation and Editing

    • Write, edit, and publish high-quality content across short- and long-form formats including blog posts and articles, case studies and customer stories, white papers and guides, social media content, newsletter content, website and landing-page copy, thought leadership, and more.
    • Interview customers, partners, company leaders, and technical subject-matter experts to uncover strong stories and translate complex concepts into accessible content.
    • Repurpose larger content assets into channel-specific formats to extend their reach and value.
    • Ensure content is accurate, useful, audience-appropriate, and consistent with the Defense Unicorns brand voice.
    • Provide editing and quality control for content produced by contributors across the organization.

Content Discovery and Optimization

    • Apply SEO and answer engine optimization (AEO) best practices to improve content visibility and discovery.
    • Optimize headlines, metadata, content structure, internal links, and calls to action.
    • Partner with website owners and other marketing team members to improve the performance of existing content.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Partner with product marketing, demand generation, growth, sales, delivery, recruiting, and design to support integrated campaigns and company initiatives.
    • Communicate content plans, dependencies, risks, and results clearly to stakeholders.

Measurement and Continuous Improvement

    • Track performance metrics such as reach, engagement, subscriber growth, website traffic, search visibility, content-assisted conversions, and campaign results.
    • Produce regular, concise reporting that explains what is working, what is not, and what should change.
    • Test new topics, formats, calls to action, distribution methods, and publishing cadences.
    • Use both quantitative results and qualitative audience feedback to refine the content strategy

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in content marketing, digital marketing, editorial management, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • An exceptional writer and editor with a portfolio demonstrating strong short- and long-form work.
  • Experience directly managing organic social media channels, particularly LinkedIn and X.
  • Experience producing and managing an email newsletter or comparable lifecycle-marketing program.
  • Strong storytelling, copywriting, proofreading, and fact-checking skills.
  • Experience developing editorial calendars and managing multiple content projects from idea through publication.
  • Working knowledge of SEO, AEO, content distribution, and digital marketing fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with content management systems such as WordPress and email or marketing automation platforms.
  • Comfort using analytics to evaluate performance and recommend practical improvements.
  • Strong project-management and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Sound editorial judgment, including the ability to ask good questions, find the core of a story, and recognize when content is not yet ready to publish.

Nice-to-haves that'll make us especially excited:

  • Experience in the defense, national security, or gov-tech space
  • Familiarity with CRM and marketing automation platforms (such as HubSpot).
  • Basic knowledge of visual storytelling, video production, or design workflows.

Work Style & Communication:

The person who will thrive in this role is:

  • Highly organized and attentive to detail, with a consistent ability to move work across the finish line.
  • Direct, clear, and thoughtful in written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable working asynchronously with a distributed team while proactively keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Receptive to feedback and capable of incorporating it without losing sight of the audience or objective.
  • Curious about technical topics and motivated to understand the substance behind the story.
  • Comfortable operating in an evolving environment where priorities may shift and new opportunities may emerge.
  • A pragmatic collaborator who welcomes input while maintaining the editorial judgment required to produce focused, effective content.

Full compensation packages are based on candidate experience. Compensation ranges are established using national benchmarking data and apply across all geographic locations within the United States.
