Team Overview

The Data Platform Team is driving the evolution of TransUnion’s enterprise-grade data infrastructure by modernizing and migrating legacy workloads into a scalable, cloud-native ecosystem. The team enables high-value batch and real-time data architectures that empower the business to make fast, reliable, data-driven decisions at scale. This team operates within the broader Application Development organization and reports to Engineering Leadership.

This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Role Overview And Core Responsibilities

  • Drive Technology Modernization – Serve as a key contributor in accelerating our cloud migration journey by translating architectural roadmaps into scalable, production-ready data solutions.

    Build & Optimize Data Pipelines – Design, develop, and maintain high-performance batch and real-time data pipelines using Java and Apache Spark, while modernizing legacy workloads for cloud environments.

    Performance Tuning & Cost Optimization – Identify and resolve data processing bottlenecks, optimize query performance, and implement strategies to improve efficiency while reducing cloud costs.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partner with architects, project leads, and product teams to ensure engineering deliverables align with enterprise priorities and business objectives.

    Engineering Excellence – Develop clean, resilient, and well-tested code, actively participate in code reviews, and contribute to technical documentation and best practices.

    DevOps & Automation – Implement CI/CD (Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment) pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards.

    Knowledge Sharing & Mentorship – Mentor peers, share technical expertise, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence.


Required Knowledge And Experiences

  • 3+ Years in Software or Data Engineering – Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting large-scale, production-grade data processing applications.

    Distributed Systems & Big Data Technologies – Strong understanding of distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark and Hadoop, with experience processing large-scale enterprise datasets.

    Cloud Data Platforms – Experience designing and deploying data solutions on major cloud platforms such as AWS (Amazon Web Services) or GCP (Google Cloud Platform).

    Agile Delivery & Ownership – Proven ability to independently solve complex technical challenges, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes in an Agile environment.

  • Java – Advanced proficiency in developing scalable, high-performance, multithreaded applications.

    Apache Spark & Hadoop – Hands-on experience with distributed data processing and large-scale analytics workloads.

    Cloud Technologies – Working knowledge of AWS or GCP data services, storage platforms, and cloud-native architectures.

    Microservices & Distributed Architectures – Understanding of modern application design patterns and distributed systems principles.

    CI/CD & Test Automation – Experience building and maintaining automated deployment pipelines and testing frameworks.

  • Preferred Skills

    We are also looking for candidates with the following skills. While not required, these capabilities can accelerate success in the role and will be supported as part of ongoing career development:

    Containerization & Orchestration – Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for deploying and managing containerized applications.

    Infrastructure as Code (IaC) – Familiarity with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools for infrastructure automation and management.

    Legacy-to-Cloud Migration – Experience modernizing on-premises batch workloads and transforming them into cloud-native or event-driven architectures.
