Chief Officer for Self-Propelled Cutter Suction Dredger

Certified as Chief Officer (Unlimited)

Basic & Advanced STCW training certification

5-10 years rank experience on Self-Propelled Cutter Suction Dredger.

  • Assist the Captain in the safe navigation, operation, and overall management of the Self-Propelled Cutter Suction Dredger.
  • Take responsibility for deck operations, dredging support activities, cargo/ballast operations, and crew supervision onboard.
  • Supervise dredging activities and monitor operational performance in coordination with the Captain and Production Team.
  • Ensure safe execution of anchoring, spud handling, pipeline handling, towing, and mooring operations.
  • Maintain vessel stability, trim, draft, and ballast conditions in compliance with operational requirements.
  • Plan and supervise deck maintenance activities, including structural repairs, painting, housekeeping, and equipment upkeep.
  • Ensure compliance with ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, company HSE policies, and statutory maritime regulations.
  • Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and emergency drills for deck crew members.
  • Supervise deck crew performance and ensure safe working practices are followed during all marine operations.
  • Monitor the condition and certification status of lifesaving appliances, firefighting equipment, lifting gears, and deck machinery.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Engineer regarding machinery support required for dredging and deck operations.
  • Assist in voyage planning, navigational watchkeeping, and bridge operations as assigned by the Captain.
  • Maintain accurate records of deck maintenance, safety inspections, drills, permits, and operational activities.
  • Ensure proper implementation of Permit to Work (PTW) systems and onboard safety procedures.
  • Supervise loading, storage, and control of deck stores, consumables, ropes, wires, and operational equipment.
  • Monitor weather, tidal, and sea conditions to support safe dredging and marine operations.
  • Assist in mobilization, demobilization, dry docking, and project preparation activities.
  • Coordinate with surveyors and project teams regarding dredging limits, positioning systems, and operational progress.
  • Ensure safe transfer of personnel, equipment, and supplies between vessels and shore facilities.
  • Investigate and report near misses, incidents, unsafe conditions, and operational delays onboard.
  • Support environmental protection measures and ensure compliance with pollution prevention procedures.
  • Act as Ship Security Officer (SSO) when designated and ensure vessel security procedures are maintained.
  • Take command of the vessel in the absence of the Captain as per company and maritime regulations.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, operational efficiency, and a strong safety culture among all crew members.
