The Opportunity

This is not a standard teaching post. As a Chemistry Teacher in this high-performing setting, you will be working with some of the most gifted young minds in the country. The school has a track record of sending students to Oxbridge and Ivy League universities, and the Science department is the engine room of this success.

The £8,000 TLR is attached to an Academic Responsibility role, which could include:

Located within walking distance of the Houses of Parliament and prestigious scientific institutions, the school offers a stimulating intellectual atmosphere. The Chemistry labs are state-of-the-art, equipped for advanced practical work that exceeds the standard national curriculum requirements. You will work alongside a team of specialists who are committed to pedagogical excellence and academic rigour.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Academic Excellence: Deliver intellectually stimulating lessons that challenge high-attaining students and foster a deep love for the chemical sciences.

  • Leadership (TLR Role): Drive departmental standards, oversee internal assessments, and mentor junior staff or ECTs within the faculty.

  • Enrichment: Lead high-level extracurricular clubs, such as the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Chemistry Olympiad or the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge.

  • Practical Mastery: Ensure the highest standards of laboratory safety while delivering complex, undergraduate-level practical demonstrations.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualifications: A first-class or 2:1 degree in Chemistry (or a closely related field) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Experience: A proven track record of delivering "Outstanding" results at A-Level. Previous experience in a leadership or coordination role is highly desirable.

  • Vision: An educator who stays abreast of current scientific research and can integrate modern chemical developments into the classroom.
