Overview

As the CCU hospitalist, you would be responsible for overnight cross coverage of the patients in the CCU (typically ~20-32pts, standard mix of heart failure/ACS/post-PCI/etc. Acuity includes approximately 2/3 of the patients who are classic step-down level of care (post PCI monitoring, lasix drip, etc). Should also be comfortable cross-covering patients on ventilators, pressors/inotropes, and intraaortic balloon pump/PA catheters, though a cardiology fellow and attending are on call and available for immediate bedside support and in-house pulmonary critical care team is available for consultation.

Responsibilities beyond cross coverage are to admit only direct transfers from other hospitals to the CCU (typically 0-3 patients/night). Any patient admitted through the ED will have the admission handled by a hospitalist/resident team before handing off to the CCU hospitalist.

Necessary procedural skills include placing central lines and arterial lines.
