Bike Build Quality Control

About us

Halfords is on a journey - building the future of motoring and cycling and looking for people who want to help shape what comes next. We’re a place for co‑creators: people who want to make a real impact, take ownership and be part of something that’s still evolving.

As the UK’s leading retailer of motoring and cycling products, we’re supported by one of the country’s largest independent vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair networks through Halfords Autocentres. This breadth gives us a strong, stable foundation - and the freedom to keep innovating and growing.

That means real variety for our colleagues, along with the opportunity to learn, stretch and develop as the business moves forward. Whatever your role, you’ll be part of a team focused on delivering exceptional service - using your expertise to solve problems, guide customers and help keep the nation moving with confidence.

About the role

Reporting to the Bike Build Team Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, safety and compliance of all cycles built through the Halfords HWD Build Service on Halfords.com. Acting as a quality champion within the Bike Build department, you will verify that all bikes are assembled to the required standards and meet both company and legal requirements before reaching our customers.

You will take ownership of the quality verification process, carrying out inspections and audits to ensure adherence to Halfords' PDI process, departmental SOPs and operational standards. Working closely with colleagues across Bike Build, Training and Stock Control, you will help maintain consistency, identify areas for improvement and support the delivery of a first-class customer experience.

This role requires a keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will be responsible for identifying quality concerns, supporting compliance across the department and helping to drive high standards in everything we do, ensuring every bike leaves the operation built to the highest possible standard.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor the quality and standard of bikes built within the department, ensuring compliance with the agreed Halfords PDI process, departmental SOPs and legal requirements.

  • Conduct quality checks on built and packed bikes, identifying defects and ensuring all products meet required standards before dispatch.

  • Support and promote operational compliance by ensuring Bike Build colleagues work within agreed company processes and standards.

  • Proactively identify and drive efficiency improvements and continuous improvement opportunities across the department.

  • Work closely with the Bike Build Trainer to maintain consistency in build quality, processes and standards.

  • Partner with Stock Control to inspect and document returned bikes, accurately determining reasons for return and associated costs.

  • Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment in line with Health & Safety guidelines.

  • Report, document and escalate any damage, defects or quality concerns to the Management Team and Quality Department.

About you

  • High professional standards and excellent attention to detail, consistently reflecting Halfords values in everything you do.

  • A strong commitment to quality, ensuring all bikes meet company and manufacturer standards before reaching our customers.

  • Confidence and ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Resilience and determination to overcome challenges while maintaining a positive and proactive attitude.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues effectively.

  • A safety-focused approach, ensuring all quality checks are completed accurately and consistently.

  • The ability to work efficiently and manage priorities while maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Good computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

  • Previous bike building experience or a strong knowledge of bicycles is essential.

Not sure you meet all the criteria? We'd encourage you to take the wheel and apply anyway! At Halfords we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace for our colleagues. We're an equal opportunities employer and proud to welcome applications from all backgrounds and embrace diversity within our one Halfords Family.

This role requires 5 days on site at our Redditch Distribution Centre. Working hours are 6am – 2pm.
